Background : Mirizzi syndrome is a rare complication of gallstone disease. It is necessary to discuss each clinical experience and consider an appropriate method for the preoperative diagnosis and treatment.
Methods : We report a case of a 37-year-old male presented with dark urine and right upper quadrant pain. Blood tests revealed elevated liver and biliary enzyme levels. Magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography showed a narrowed common hepatic duct compressed by a 12mm cystic duct stone, consistent with upstream bile duct dilatation. Clinically mirizzi syndrome diagnosed.
Results : Emergent percutaneous cholecystostomy performed. Delayed laparoscopic cholecystectomy was done. The postoperative clinical course was uneventful.
Conclusions : Delayed laparoscopic cholecystectomy is a useful technique for patients with Mirizzi syndrome to avoid complication rates, including bile duct injuries
