Background : Laparoscopic spleen preserving distal pancreatectomy is an acceptable option for pre-malignant lesions of the pancreas but is technically a very challenging procedure. We performed a spleen preserving distal pancreatectomy for a pseudo-papillary tumour of the pancreas in a young girl. This is a video presentation of the procedure
Methods : Video presentation of a laparoscopic spleen preserving distal pancreatectomy
Results : Operative time was 4 hours. No post operative complications were encountered. Blood loss was 120mls. Patient was discharged on day 3. Histopathology showed a pseudo-papillary tumor of the pancreas with R0 margin.
Conclusions : Laparoscopic Spleen preserving distal pancreatectomy is a feasible option for patients inspite of being in a resource poor setting
